Medicare Supplement Plans

Compare Medicare Supplement plans side by side

Medicare Supplement Plans offer additional coverage if your Original Medicare Health Plan cannot cover the full extent of your medical expenses. In fact, these plans also extend to covering medical expenses that you may incur outside your state or country.  Some types of Medicare Advantage Plans may also offer similar benefits, but they can sometimes be restrictive with regards to emergency services or choice of physicians.

In such a case, a Medicare Supplementary Plan can see you through. It is important to note that additional coverage plans are governed by a strict set of rules and are offered by private insurance providers. As such, it requires you to directly deal with private insurers who can often be confusing with their advice. Our agents can help direct you towards a Medicare Supplement Plan that will be ideal to your situation. Since there is no telling how much medical costs you will incur, we can help plan out your expenses and choose what the best policy for you can be.

Medicare Supplement Plan Comparison

Medicare Supplement or Medigap policies follow a set standard and are required to comply with federally implemented state laws. These laws are put in place to protect the citizens of that particular state.

Insurance companies should not be able to sell you a policy that does not follow standardized policies recognized in majority of states. These policies are usually denoted by alphabets easily identifiable in most states, as seen in the chart below.

While most Medicare policies offer very similar benefits with only minor variations—mostly dependent upon the plan you choose—it helps to know and choose the plan that best suits your individual needs. Through the chart below, you can discover a variety of options available to you, to help you make an informed decision.

The states of Massachusetts, Minnesota, and Wisconsin follow a different standardization procedure than other states.

A lesser known fact is that insurance companies are at complete liberty to decide the Medigap policies they wish to sell. State laws, however, may play a part in what policies they are ultimately able to offer. All insurance companies that offer Medigap policies:

  • Are not obliged to offer all Medigap plans
  • Are obliged to offer Medigap Plan A, regardless of what policy they offer
  • Are obliged to offer Plans C and F if they offer any other plan

A point to remember: Apart from cases where the Medigap policy also covers the deductibles, your Medicare Supplement policy will cover co-insurance after the required deductibles have been paid for.
