New York Medicare Plans

In The NY market there are several different Medicare Plan options. The standardized Medicare Supplement plans such as Plan F, Plan G and Plan N are offered statewide but premium rates are based on your zip code and county where you reside. NY is also one of the few states where Medicare Supplement Plans are community rated. Meaning everyone residing in specific zip codes pay the same rate. Regardless of age, gender or health conditions. Unlike many other states NY is classified as a guarantee issue state with Medicare Supplement plans. This means after you enroll in Medicare or your initial enrollment period is over, you cannot be denied coverage due to health questions on an application. In many other states you will be fully underwritten. (asked health qualifying questions).

New York residents have many different options to select a Medicare Advantage plan that includes Part D prescription drug coverage. Some of the plans are an HMO that have in network benefits only. Some plans offered are a PPO with out of network benefits. Some of these plans may have a $0 monthly premium. Some may have a monthly premium. You must be enrolled in Part A and Part B. Which means you must continue to pay your Part B premium. The Medicare Advantage plans offered are determined by your service area, which is the zip code and county you reside. Residents that live in Manhattan, Queens, Brooklyn, Bronx, Staten island will have different plan options than someone residing in Nassau or Suffolk county. Or someone in Westchester may have different plan options than someone residing in Albany.

New York residents entitled to Medicare and Medicaid benefits can qualify for a Dual Special Needs plan. These are Medicare Advantage plans with coordinated Medicaid benefits through the state. The plans available are determined by your service area where you reside.

Stand Alone Part D prescription drug plans for NY residents is generally offered throughout the entire state. In NY state the Part D extra help program is called EPIC.

Or Elderly Pharmaceutical Insurance Coverage. To enroll in this program you must be 65 or older, currently enrolled in a Part D plan and show income less than $75,000 for an individual or $100,000 per couple.
